A ten out of ten is not a score, it is a statement
We pretend the scale is linear while using only its top third.
Anything below seven means "do not bother", not "average". So we really have three working steps, not ten, and every time we perform a precision that does not exist.
Four steps with an explanation attached to each would be more honest. But the ten-point scale suits aggregators rather than readers — they need a number that can be averaged.
