Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail is out on Switch 2
A major MMO on a Nintendo handheld — the first of its kind in this form.
Final Fantasy XIV with the Dawntrail expansion arrived on Switch 2 on 4 August.
An MMO on a handheld is not a graphics problem. A game like this needs a constant connection, holds dozens of nearby players in memory, and is built for sessions that run for hours. None of those requirements gets along with a device you put in a bag and play on the move.
Square Enix is the first major publisher to try it. How the game behaves on a train over mobile data is a question that ordinary players in the first few weeks will answer, not benchmarks.
